Overview:
As we want students to be able to use the trip as an opportunity to build their sketchbook, they will be researching two artists as part of the itinerary.
For the Madrid Art trip, the first artist could be a Madrid-based artist or one strongly associated with the city, such as Francisco Goya or Juan Gris. The second artist should be chosen based on personal interest but linked to the theme of the trip, such as exploring the rich history of Spanish art, the influence of Spanish culture on modern art movements, or themes of surrealism and expressionism.
Students will visit key museums like the Museo del Prado and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofÃa to study works from a range of periods and styles. Here, they will focus on how these works connect to the themes or techniques of the selected artists. Additionally, a visit to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum will offer a comprehensive overview of the history of Western art, providing further context and inspiration for artistic exploration.
Madrid's art collections, showcasing works from Velázquez to Picasso, give students a comprehensive look at the evolution of Spanish art and its influence on global art movements.
